Lunches and Snacks
Lunches / Universal Free School Meals
In September 2014, the government introduced free school meals for all children in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2. A cold packed lunch is currently provided for the children using the catering contractor, Star Cuisine. The lunch is a healthy, balanced and nutritious meal and meets the new national food standards.
If you have a child in Year 3 or 4, you may purchase a packed lunch. Please contact the school office for further information.
If you are providing a lunch for your child, please do the following:
- Provide a named lunch box (non-breakable container) for your child.
- Provide a balanced, healthy lunch, avoiding foods, such as, crisps and chocolate.
- Avoid foods that contain nuts, so that we protect any member of the school community with a nut allergy.
All children (including those receiving a universal free school meal), will need to bring a non-breakable drinks bottle to school (water only – no squash or fizzy drinks).
If you have any queries, please contact the school office.
For those families that are entitled to a free school meal due to income it is important that your child is registered or continues to be registered for the free school meal. Your child will continue to receive a cold packed lunch. If you are not already registered and would like to find out if you are eligible, please visit the online eligibility checker at https://www.dorsetforyou.com/free-school-meals. This online form only takes a few moments to complete and will give you an immediate response. We would encourage you to do this as the school also receives much needed additional funding for each child that is registered.
Playtime Snacks
As part of the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme, all children in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 are provided with a free fruit or vegetable snack. We also encourage children in Years 3 and 4 to bring in a fruit or vegetable snack for playtime.
