TED (Time to Explore and Discover)

TED is a key part of the Rushcombe curriculum – it stands for Time to Explore and Discover. Children in Foundation will engage in daily TED sessions (reinforcing the child-initiated aspects of the early years curriculum), whereas older children may participate in TED projects that run over a block of consecutive days.

During TED time, children engage in self-directed tasks – they plan what they would like to do, carry out investigations and projects, and make their own learning discoveries. During this time, the teachers will work alongside your child, engaging in discussion with them and asking questions to support their thinking and to help extend their tasks in productive ways. Children are encouraged to evaluate what they are doing and to review their learning upon completion, possibly finding new ideas for next steps. Engaging in TED supports the development of the child as a motivated, curious learner, including enhancing self-awareness and their Learning Hero skills (for example, making changes to their project work, just like Adaptable Armadillo). TED sessions also provide opportunities for children to practise and apply a range of skills from other curriculum areas.
