Rushcombe First School is a Dorset Council maintained school.  Admissions to Rushcombe First School are administered by Dorset Council (Admissions Team).

Commencing School for the First Time

Following the Dorset Local Authority Admissions Policy, arrangements for all children starting school for the first time are as follows:

Any parents wishing their child to commence Rushcombe First School in September 2025, for children born between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2021, will need to complete an application form.  Forms are available on-line from September 2024 for completion at: Apply for a school place – Dorset Council

The closing date for all applications is 15th January 2025.

Once a place has been offered by the Local Authority, we invite you and your child to a series of events and activities to make starting school as enjoyable and smooth as possible.

These include:

  • Introductory ‘Play and Learn’ sessions during the summer term prior to the September
  • ‘All About Me Booklet’
  • A meeting between parents and staff
  • ‘Welcome to School’ session in the autumn term
  • Autumn term induction period

In-Year Admission Arrangements

If you wish your child to join Rushcombe First School part-way through the school year, for example, your child is changing schools because of a house move or moving from one school to another, you will need to apply online here.
