To mark the end of our most recent Learning Adventure, The Legend of the Lorax, which had an environmental theme, all children in the school recently took part in a special tree planting event. Each class planted a tree in a location on the school grounds, meaning that 10 trees were planted in total, further contributing to the biodiversity and natural beauty of the school environment. Trees were planted in the orchard area, including apple, plum and cherry trees, whilst other trees were planted to extend the circular, tree lined walk that is being created around the perimeter of the grounds. In addition to the trees, the children also planted a range of pollinator friendly perennials, including cowslips and snowdrops along the perimeter walk and a host of aubretia in the school’s sensory garden. Across the day, it was wonderful to see all of the children enthusiastically engaging in the development of their natural environment, and showing their attitudes of care and responsibility for the planet. By taking part in the planting event, the children were demonstrating that everyone can make a difference to the natural world, and that collectively people can counteract the effects of deforestation and pollution. We look forward to seeing the trees flourish over the coming years, and to continuing to find ways of improving our environment for both people and wildlife.
